The European Commission presented the Energy Security Package

The European Commission presented on 16th February the Energy Security Package, one of the most important initiatives for the gas sector in recent years.

The new measures proposed by the European Commission will shore-up prevention of gas crises and ensure better coordination and support between EU countries in any gas supply disruption even through access to LNG and gas storage.

The Commission in fact sets a liquefied natural gas (LNG) strategy that will improve access of all Member States to LNG as an alternative source of gas. The central elements of this strategy are building the strategic infrastructure to complete the internal energy market and identifying the necessary projects to end single-source dependency of some of the Member States.

GIE published a press release on the several aspects of the Package.
